Overview
KIMAenergy, experienced offshore wind advisors focused on the Asia-Pacific region, managed a pilot environmental DNA (eDNA) monitoring campaign to inform biodiversity in an Australian waters. For this study, KIMAenergy partnered with NatureMetrics to apply our eDNA technology and expertise from survey design through to nature intelligence reporting.
This approach offers insights into the species inhabiting and transiting through the offshore area, supporting baseline studies for offshore wind development.
The summary report presented here shows the findings of the study. It demonstrates how eDNA technology can capture a snapshot of marine biodiversity, from ray-finned fishes to large marine mammals.
This pilot study provides data with the potential to support the design of future, more detailed monitoring campaigns.
The results illustrate how scientific methods can align with sustainable development goals in the offshore wind sector to inform renewable energy projects in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
